𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐒 𝐀𝐓 𝐎𝐌𝐒𝐂 𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐔𝐒

The CHED Composite Team commenced its validation visit to Occidental Mindoro State College’s (OMSC) five campuses: Main, San Jose, Murtha, Sablayan, and Mamburao on May 29, 2024. The objective of the activity is to conduct simultaneous validation sessions to assess OMSC’s compliance with the requirements for University Status. They evaluated the learning resources, support structures, student services, and community extension services, based on CHED Memorandum Order No. 46 Series 2021 and to individual minimum requirements of 30 program offerings.

This endeavor aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

1. Quality Education (SDG 4): By ensuring OMSC’s compliance with university standards, the validation activity contributes to providing quality education and lifelong learning opportunities to students.

2. Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8): The validation process supports the development of a skilled workforce, fostering economic growth and prosperity in Occidental Mindoro.

3. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9): Assessing OMSC’s research, development, and extension programs promotes innovation and sustainable infrastructure development in the region.

4. Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11): OMSC’s journey towards university status reflects its commitment to building sustainable communities and promoting inclusive education across Occidental Mindoro.

This is a crucial step toward OMSC’s journey to attain university status, affirming its dedication to academic excellence and community empowerment. Republic Act 11587 was signed into law, converting OMSC into Occidental Mindoro State University (OMSU) on July 30, 2021. The law requires that OMSC complies with the requirements by the Commission to be fully converted into a university. CHED MIMAROPA endorsed OMSC to be fully compliant with the requirements for university status and validation activity last April.
