Advancing Global Citizenship in MIMAROPA: Palawan State University Hosts Faculty & Staff Annual Conference focused on Driving Institutional Excellence through Internationalization, Digital Transformation and Sustainability

Events September 27, 2024

Palawan State University (PalSU) recently hosted a significant annual conference that brought together faculty, staff, and students to advance the university’s commitment to institutional excellence on 9-11 September 2024. The event, focused on driving institutional excellence through internationalization, digital transformation, and sustainability, is an initiative of PalSU’s journey towards becoming a globally recognized institution. This aligns with the institutional vision of being an internationally recognized university that provides relevant and innovative education and research for lifelong learning and sustainable development.

The last session on the third day of the Conference was designed to tackle Internationalization in Higher Education. In partnership with CHED MIMAROPA, the event was centered around the  theme “Strategic Approaches to Internationalization, Ranking, and Sustainable Development in Education”. This session allowed PalSU for the majority of its faculty and staff to streamline their appreciation of the internationalization efforts in the academic context. The number of participants was estimated to be around 940, attending both in person and virtually.

The other part of the session was a workshop with school officials, faculty and administrators, headed by President Dr. Ramon M. Docto, on their own projects and programs related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strategies for fostering global citizenship from academic curricula to community engagements.

An additional day was allocated specifically for the PalSU leadership team, administrators and staff to examine their existing programs to ensure they reflect the institution’s commitment to fostering long-term environmental and social responsibility. The event included interactive sessions where participants engaged in discussions and developed the value of ownership.

CHED MIMAROPA is present in the two days orientation/workshop as Resource Person and Facilitating Team as it commits to foster an environment that supports higher education institutions in the region in their pursuit of global excellence. The next step forward is for the regional office to provide ongoing technical assistance as PalSU effectively documents their activities, which are already aligned with the principles of university impact initiatives.

CHED MIMAROPA anticipates that this partnership will significantly contribute to the advancement of MIMAROPA’s academic institutions, enabling them to compete on a global stage, foster sustainable development, and leave a lasting international mark.
