PROF. EDNA IMELDA FERNANDEZ-LEGAZPI is currently the Director IV of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office (CHEDRO) MIMAROPA and the Co-chairperson of the Gender and Development Office (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS) of CHED.

Prof. “Mae” Legazpi is an alumna of the country’s National Center for Teacher Education (Philippine Normal University – NCTE) where she finished her AB/BSE English (1988, MAGNA CUM LAUDE) and Master of Arts program in Education, Major in Language Testing in 1998.  She is currently enrolled in PNU’s Doctor of Philosophy in English Language Education (ELE). She is a recipient of the Gawad Sulo for Eminent Alumni Award in Educational Leadership (PNU, April 2024) and the V. Dennis M. Socrates (VDMS) Governor’s Award 2024. 

Prof. Legazpi’s thirty-five years in the academe have been spent in the following institutions and in different capacities: 

She was a faculty member of the English Department of the Philippine Normal College from 1988 to 1998. She then entered and taught full time at the College of Teacher Education of Palawan State University from 1999 to   2022, as well as an affiliate faculty of PSU’s Graduate School. 

She also held the following designations, such as:  Chairperson of the Languages Department, Principal of PSU-Laboratory Elementary School, Director of Public Information Office (PIO) and OIC-Director of the Office of Gender and Development (GAD) Office.  She also taught English courses at Holy Trinity University in Puerto Princesa City. 

Aside from teaching, Prof. Legazpi is consistently invited as a resource speaker, host, lecturer, and facilitator. She has extensive experience as coordinator of several projects of Local Government Units, government and non-government agencies, especially with regard to career-advancement sessions, team building activities, and other professional advancement-related efforts. She has also shared her insights towards the enrichment of written and oral communication skills, as well as gender and development-related issues. She has also presented several papers, and research studies both in international and national conventions. She sits in the Advisory Council of some NGOs in Palawan such as Roots of  Health and Ahon  Palaweno where she channels her advocacies for gender equality , diversity   and inclusivity . 

A widow of the late RTC Branch 49 Presiding Judge Leopoldo Mario Pili Legazpi of Gagalangin, Manila, Prof. Legazpi is a solo parent who, despite her busy schedule, has raised three accomplished sons: Karl Josef (AB History, Cum Laude,  UP Diliman, 2019) Franz Vincent (AB Creative Writing, UP Diliman,2020) , who are both currently enrolled as  Law students at  the UP College of Law and Juan Rafael (Grade 12, BS Anthropology, UP Diliman). 

Now at age 56, she reads, sings, watches films, writes fiction, and goes to the beach to destress and enjoys life to the fullest.
