Accessible Student Services, Safe Space, and Drug-Free Campus Initiatives Kicks Off in MIMAROPA HEIs

One hundred ten (110) academic officials and students from private and public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Palawan share commitment with the Commission on Higher Education – MIMAROPA Regional Office (CHED-MIMAROPA) to establish more accessible student services, safer space, and Drug-Free Campus as they participated in the Reorientation on Policies, Standards, and Guidelines on Student Affairs and Services and the Roadmap of Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs for Higher Education Institutions in MIMAROPA Region on June 4, 2024 at Canvas Boutique Hotel, Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
Ms. Cynthia Q. Hernandez, the OIC- Chief of the Local Student Affairs Division of the Office of Students and Development Services of the Commission discussed the Policies and Guidelines on Local Off-Campus (CMO No. 63 Series of 2017) while Ms. Lovelyn L. Chen, the Education Supervisor II talked about the Enhanced Policies and Guidelines on SAS (CMO No. 09 Series of 2013) and the Guidelines on Gender-Based Sexual Harassment in HEIs (CMO No. 3 Series of 2022). The discussion formed the first part of the activity on Student Affairs and Services (SAS).
In the second part of the orientation, the participants collectively engaged in a lively discussion by Director Francis Grace H. Duka-Pante, Director of ASEAN Training Center for Preventive Drug Education, as she presented the, “Effective Delivery of School-Based Prevention Interventions.”
The activity aims to: (1) provide an overview of the Policies, Standards, and Guidelines on Student Affairs and Services and the Roadmap of Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy; (2) determine the importance of establishing the Drug Prevention Committee in HEIs and a provincial network of all HEIs; (3) affirm the responsibilities of HEIs in the provision of Student Affairs and Services; and (4) come up with an action plan for SAS and PADS for the implementation of the HEIs in MIMAROPA Region.
CHEDRO MIMAROPA Director, Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes, CESE, and the Chief Education Program Sspecialist, Engr. Edgar C. Cepe expressed satisfaction with the participation of HEIs and exhorted vigilance awareness of HEIs to attain a drug-free HEIs in MIMAROPA Region.
Hosted by the Supervising Education Program Specialist of CHED-MIMAROPA, Ms. Merigen S. Cafino, the event became possible with the unwavering effort of the PADS Committee of CHEDRO MIMAROPA spearheaded by Mr. Ronaldo Pedrosa, Focal Person; Ms. Lovelyn Lasac -Chen, Alternate Focal Person; and PADS members: Mr. John Michael Vergara, Ms. Darlyn De Castro, Ms. Abigail Limjuco, and Ms. Ms. Kristelle Joy Gregorio.
