As part of the Orientation on Philippine Higher Education Internationalization and Global Citizenship Education (GCED), private higher education institutions and a community college in Oriental Mindoro participated in a two-day (2) collaborative session focused on presenting their community-based projects. This initiative emphasized aligning these projects with the World University Ranking for Impact (WURI) application and their contributions to global citizenship and sustainable development.
The first day, 03 October 2024, of the event was hosted by Mindoro State University, laying a foundation for comprehensive discussions led by Regional Director Jimmy G. Catanes. During the second day, October 3, 2024, private higher education institutions and a community college in Oriental Mindoro gathered to present their community-based projects, with a focus on aligning these initiatives with the World University Ranking for Impact (WURI) and contributing to global citizenship and sustainable development. Present private HEIs are Clarendon College Inc, John Paul College, Divine Word College of Calapan, Paradigm Colleges of Science and Technology, Inc., Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology, and City College of Calapan. CHED MIMAROPA served as resource persons and facilitators, guiding participants in exploring impactful project strategies and internationalization goals.
The goal of this session was to provide a platform for representatives from the HEIs to showcase their initiatives while highlighting their impact. Each participant articulated their project’s objectives, outcomes, and community significance, focusing on how these projects meet WURI’s criteria related to social responsibility and innovation. The session was designed to encourage constructive dialogue among participants, allowing them to provide feedback and suggestions to enhance each other’s presentations. This collaborative environment improved the quality of project descriptions and fostered a shared commitment to enhancing their institutions’ visibility and credibility in the context of global standards.
During the session, representatives from institutions presented their projects, which addressed local challenges while demonstrating solutions:
Clarendon College Inc (student support and engagement)
John Paul College (student support and engagement)
Divine Word College of Calapan (Cultures/Values, Student Support and Engagement)
Paradigm Colleges of Science and Technology, Inc. (student support and engagement)
Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology (student support and engagement)
City College of Calapan (student support and engagement / Entrepreneurial Spirit)
After each presentation, peers offered insights and recommendations on how to refine the project messaging and articulate their alignment with WURI’s impact criteria. This is designed to allow presenters to view their projects from different perspectives and strengthen their narratives for impact and for participants to be encouraged to ask questions and share suggestions, creating an exchange of ideas that enriched the presentation process. This atmosphere was tailored to enhance individual projects and reinforced the collective commitment to social impact and effective communication.
As CHED MIMAROPA continues to promote global citizenship and enhance the visibility of private higher education institutions in MIMAROPA, sessions like this are essential. They foster a culture of support and shared learning, equipping institutions to communicate their contributions effectively. The Regional Office is hopeful that this effort will pave the way for future successes in WURI applications and reinforces their commitment to making a meaningful impact in their communities.
