After Western Philippines University (WPU) spearheaded an orientation in June 2024, a comprehensive workshop was held on September 11, 2024, focusing on the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). Once again, WPU partnered with CHED MIMAROPA to facilitate the sessions. The technical assistance provided by CHED MIMAROPA included facilitation, insightful guidance on best practices, and hands-on mentoring for WPU officials in refining their policies and projects.
The workshop centered on reviewing and presenting existing policies, projects, and programs that align with the SDGs, THE Impact Rankings, and WURI categories. Dr. Lita Sopsop, VPAA, represented WPU President Dr. Amabel Liao, they comprehensively outlined WPU’s initiatives addressing the needs of students, staff, the institution, and the surrounding communities in Palawan and nearby islands.
Participants presented a range of projects and programs already implemented within the institution and local communities, highlighting collaborative efforts with partner institutions and agencies. This activity played a crucial role in evaluating WPU’s ability to meet the demands of quality higher education while addressing the needs of the local communities.
Building on the productive discussions, WPU’s current projects and programs already demonstrate significant potential for THE Impact Rankings and WURI. By further enhancing and documenting these initiatives, WPU can solidify its standing as a leader in educational impact and community engagement.
CHED MIMAROPA is dedicated to fostering an environment that supports higher education institutions in the region in their pursuit of global excellence.
