March 18, 2023 at Calapan Convention Center – With its aim to strengthen partnership and collaboration to support the realization of educational development, and to chart the education directions of Calapan City, the City Mayor’s Office (CMO), City College of Calapan (CCC), and City Education Department (CED) joined forces to conduct the first ever Calapan City Education Summit.
The said event is part of the Kalap Festival or the celebration of the 26th Cityhood Anniversary of Calapan City. With the theme: “Education Landscape of Calapan City: An Overview of Issues and Strategies,” the Commission on Higher Education-MIMAROPA Regional Office (CHED-MIMAROPA), presented the Landscape of Higher Education, Challenges, and Ways Ahead for the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the City.
Ms. Merigen S. Cafino, the Supervising Education Program Specialist (SEPS) of CHED-MIMAROPA presented the data on enrollment, graduates, faculty and characteristics of HEIs in the City. The data reflected the different higher education challenges in the city. Thus, in relation to CHED’s Strategic Goals, the different ways ahead and the need for continues internal quality assurance for each HEIs were highlighted.
The event was also graced by the Department of Education-Calapan City Division, City Planning and Development Office, and National Economic Development Authority.
Calapan City Mayor, Hon. Marilou F. Morillo hailed the event as the beginning of the City’s redirection of its education programs and projects.
The activity culminated with a Workshop on Cropping up the City-wide Educational Development Plan
