CHED MIMAROPA Boost Awareness on Student Development Initiatives

Student services initiatives, Updates, issues, concerns, and campaign against fake news in various CHED and UniFAST Financial Assistance to students, and international learning opportunities are major parts of the orientation activity conducted by CHED-MIMAROPA to its HEIs on April 23, 2024 at CHED Auditorium, C.P. Garcia Avenue, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

The said activity on Orientation of CHED and UniFAST Focals with the theme, “Leadership, Achievement, Access and Novelty (LAAN) for Student Progress and Mobility” was participated by 93 Student affairs focals and scholarship coordinators from 48 Higher Education institutions (HEIs) in the region.

 

CHED-MIMAROPA Director IV, Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes, introduced the L.A.A.N initiatives plan of CHED-MIMAROPA

Laan is a Southern Katagalugan term to mean something as destined, intended or reserved for. The event is intending to give MIMAROPA higher education students the way to their progress as various financial opportunities of CHED and UniFAST are presented and the way to mobility, as an international learning opportunity was introduced. L.A.A.N which stands for Leadership, Achievement, Access and Novelty will be the leading title for the succeeding initiatives of the regional office.

Regional Director, Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes, presented some of the many incoming activities of the CHED Regional Office for student development leading to the advancement of student leadership, academic achievement, access to learning opportunities and grants, and support to their novel creations and tasks. Some of the succeeding activities are the Laan Punyagi (Successful graduate scholars and leaders activities), Laan Saliksik (Research Initiatives) and Laan Daloy (Borderless learning and internationalization undertakings).

The event became an opportunity for the Regional Office and HEIs to discuss the issues and concerns in the various CHED and UniFAST Financial Assistance programs for students. Supervising Education Program Specialist Merigen S. Cafino, presented the Student Financial Assistance Programs (StuFAPs) of the Commission. Education Supervisor Lovelyn L. Chen presented the UniFAST programs. Education Supervisor Lesele Condeza presented the Medical Student Return Service Program (MSRSP)

Participants raised their questions which were addressed by the presenters and scholarship Committee Officers of CHED-MIMAROPA.

To counter the proliferation of fake news regarding CHED Scholarships, the statement of CHED Chair Prospero “Popoy” de Vera was also presented and the vigilance of the participants to similar fake news on social media were requested.

The event also has a live presentation of an international learning opportunity from Malaysia.

Mr. C. D. Lee of Global ReSkilling Movement presented an Online learning Platform where students could choose a course and earn an accredited international certificate for their learning. Global ReSkilling Movement through Mr. C. D. Lee will share more than 100 learning courses for the participant HEIs for free.
