CHED MIMAROPA Strengthens HEIs Compliance with GAD Laws

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) – MIMAROPA Region held an Executive Briefing on Pertinent Gender and Development (GAD) Laws and Issuances on February 18, 2026, at La Breza Hotel, Quezon City. The briefing aimed to equip Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) particularly the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) officials and GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) with the knowledge and tools to mainstream GAD principles in governance, policies, and operations.

Highlights of the briefing included:

  • Overview of national and regional GAD-related laws and issuances;
  • Roles and responsibilities of HEIs in implementing GAD programs;
  • Strategic integration of GAD principles in governance and academic policies; and
  • Accountability of institutional leaders in ensuring effective GAD implementation.

Regional Director Edna Imelda Fernandez-Legazpi emphasized the importance of leadership in driving compliance and sustaining GAD initiatives. The resource persons for this activity were from the Philippine Commission on Women.

Representatives from all State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in MIMAROPA participated in the orientation, engaging in discussions on implementing gender-responsive programs, policies, and initiatives in their respective institutions. The event provided practical guidance for HEI leaders to effectively integrate GAD principles in institutional planning, decision-making, and program implementation.

This initiative underscores CHED MIMAROPA Region’s commitment to ensuring that gender equality and development are at the forefront of higher education governance and operations in the region.
